Prior to joining Alternative Investment Group, he was the Founder and Co-CIO of Berens Capital Management, LLC from 2000 to 2018. From 1992 to 1998, he was Head of Global Equities and served on the Operating Committee at Salomon Brothers. Before Salomon Brothers, he was Managing Director, Head of Equity Trading and Head of Global Research at Morgan Stanley from 1975 to 1991. Previously he served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army. In addition, he served on the Investment Committees of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, The Peterson Institute for International Economics and Svarog.
He also served as a board member for Polyus Gold Mining Company, Keystone Property, Storyfirst Communications, the American Stock Exchange, and the National Organization of Investment Professionals. Mr. Berens also served as the President of The Society for Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, President of the Board of Trustees of Green Vale School, and Head of the Upstairs Traders Advisory Committee for the New York Stock Exchange.
He received a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from The Wharton School.
