He previously held the position of Vice President & Head-Operations at Driefontein Gold Mine, Executive Vice President-South African Region at Gold Fields Ltd., Director-Mining Technology at CSIR South Africa and Executive Head-Joint Ventures & Exit Operations at Anglo American Platinum Ltd.

Mr. Pillay received an undergraduate degree and a graduate degree from the University of Baroda.
