Woodside Fund invests in the semiconductors, networking/communications infrastructure and enterprise software sectors. They invest in an average of four to six companies per year and approximately 15 to 20 companies over a fund's lifetime. Investments range from $5 million to $10 million per portfolio company, with an initial investment of $2 million to $5 million. Most of their investments are in early-stage companies but they also make a few select seed and later-stage investments. The firm looks for companies with exceptional management teams with deep domain knowledge and high barriers to market entry because of their proprietary technology and domain expertise. Woodside also looks for companies with large market potential that can be expected to that can achieve a market value of at least $200 million and preferably more than $1 billion. There must be merger or acquisition opportunities and clear paths leading to a successful IPO. Woodside requires an investment return of at least 10 times the invested total in three to five years.
