Centrica plc ist auf den Vertrieb von Erdgas und Strom spezialisiert. Die Tätigkeit ist in drei Sektoren organisiert:
- Gas- und Stromvertrieb an Unternehmen;
- Verkauf von Erdgas und Strom an Privatpersonen (British Gas; British No. 1). Die Gruppe bietet auch Installationsdienste für städtische Zentralheizungen (British No. 1), Klimaanlagen und Sicherheitssysteme an;
- Exploration und Produktion von Kohlenwasserstoffen.
Der Nettoumsatz verteilt sich geografisch wie folgt: Vereinigtes Königreich (83,9%), Irland (5,4%), Skandinavien (3,5%) Nordamerika (1,5%) und Sonstige (5,7%).
