Leighton Contractors, Boral and Amey JV awarded major RMS road maintenance contract

A joint venture between Leighton Contractors Pty Limited, Boral Construction Materials and Amey has been selected by the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) New South Wales to deliver a seven-year, road asset management contract, servicing the Sydney South Zone valued at approximately
$100 million per annum.
The Stewardship Maintenance Contract (SMC) is one of the largest contracts of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The Leighton Boral Amey Joint Venture will deliver improvement and maintenance services for the Sydney South Zone road network, including network operations support, operational asset management and associated project management.
Leighton Holdings Chief Executive Officer, Hamish Tyrwhitt, said: "This award of more than
$300 million to Leighton Contractors demonstrates the Leighton Group's strength in services. We are pleased to be playing a major role supporting RMS in operating and maintaining the New South Wales road transport network, benefiting the State's economy and community."
Leighton Contractors Managing Director, Craig Laslett, said "The joint venture partners provide a unique combined capability for improving efficiency and services to a vital part of the region's road network which includes key freight and commuter routes to Sydney Airport and Port Botany.
"Leighton Contractors will contribute its extensive experience in road construction, operation and maintenance in New South Wales, and across Australia, to deliver safe, seamless customer-focused road improvement services."
Boral Construction Materials Divisional Managing Director, Joe Goss, said that Boral is well positioned to supply asphalt surfacing services and associated construction materials into the Sydney South Zone. "We have an extensive integrated and reliable supply network, strong local knowledge and a focus on innovation. We are committed to delivering world-class pavement solutions through the joint venture and to ensuring that safety for employees, contractors and members of the public remains the key priority."
Managing Director for Amey's Consultancy business, Andy Milner, said: "We are proud to bring our UK engineering services experience to Australia and our world-leading asset management expertise. We look forward to working with our partners to deliver excellence in road asset management and supporting RMS in further enhancing its asset management capability."
The network includes 2,000km of roads, 237 bridges and eight tunnels and stretches from the south of
Sydney's metropolitan district to the Sutherland National Park.
The Leighton Boral Amey Joint Venture (LBAJV) will commence service delivery from end March 2014 for seven years (with the option of an extension of up to three years) forging and building on key relationships with the local community, existing suppliers and stakeholders in the region.
This is the LBAJV's second contract win in less than two weeks, securing a five-year, $135 million road asset management contract with Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads at the end of October.
