THIESS TO BUILD $650 MILLION MORETON BAY RAIL LINK

Thiess has been awarded the $650 million contract to deliver the long awaited Moreton Bay Rail Link which will service a major suburban growth corridor in South East Queensland.
Thiess is the construction spearhead of the Trackstar team which includes design subcontractors
Aurecon, AECOM, HASSELL, and geotechnical subcontractor Golder Associates.
First proposed more than a century ago, the 12.6 kilometre rail link will connect the greater Brisbane rail network, which currently ends at Petrie, to the rapidly growing Moreton Bay region. New stations will be built at Kippa-Ring, Rothwell, Mango Hill East, Mango Hill, Murrumba Downs and Kallangur.
Leighton Holdings Chief Executive Officer, Hamish Tyrwhitt said the major civil infrastructure win demonstrates the resilience of the Leighton Group's diverse portfolio.
"It's very pleasing to note that in the past six weeks we have on-boarded in excess of $5.5 billion of projects, tangible proof that we can continue to sustain our work in hand, notwithstanding any challenges we may face in the coal sector.
"For the nation, the Moreton Bay Rail Link demonstrates a growing recognition of the need to fill our infrastructure deficit in order to remain globally competitive. The Leighton Group is well placed to deliver these nation-building projects," Mr Tyrwhitt said.
Thiess Managing Director Bruce Munro said the project win further demonstrates Thiess' expert capability in rail and continues the company's proud record of delivering vital transport infrastructure to the growth engine rooms of Australia.
"We are currently delivering major projects in Victoria, New South Wales and here in Queensland where Thiess and the Trackstar Team are nearing completion of the rail link to the major Springfield growth corridor.
"Infrastructure such as the Moreton Bay Rail Link requires vision and commitment by governments and I commend the combined commitment of the Federal and Queensland Governments and the Moreton Bay Regional Council on this project," Mr Munro said.
The project will require a workforce at its peak of 1000 people and is scheduled to be operational by
June 2016.
