Zurich Life Assurance Plc (Zurich Life) is the Ireland-based life insurance subsidiary of Zurich Holding Ireland Ltd., ultimately held by Zurich Insurance Group AG (SWX: ZURN) in Switzerland. Founded in 1977, the firm was formerly known as Eagle Star Life Assurance Co. of Ireland Ltd. In 1984, Eagle Star Insurance Group was acquired by BAT Industries and in 1997 BAT's financial services businesses were spun off and merged with Zurich Insurance Co. to create Zurich Financial Services Group. Eagle Star Life Assurance was rebranded Zurich Life Ireland in 2008 and subsequently became Zurich Life Assurance Plc. Headquartered in Dublin, Zurich Life provides a wide range of property and casualty, and life insurance products and services to individuals, small businesses, and mid-sized and large companies, as well as multinational corporations.
