Mr. Theo L.
Speelmans is Chief Executive Officer at KBC Financial Products UK Ltd.
He has over 20 years of experience at KBC Bank in various functions and countries, starting in 1986 in Belgium attending a comprehensive banking training program for selected young graduates.
In 1988, he was trained in London for corporate banking and foreign exchange/money markets.
In 1989, he was based in Australia as a Representative for Australia and New Zealand.
And for 3 months during 1993, he was in Hongkong as a member of the project preparation team for the branch opening in Singapore.
In the same year, he moved to Singapore as part of start-up team responsible for Loan Syndications in South East Asia.
In 1995, Mr. Speelmans was appointed as Head of Corporate banking in France where he started the acquisition finance, real estate finance, and public finance business lines.
In 1999, he became the General Manager of the whole French office, Non-Executive Director in a group stockbroking subsidiary and leasing subsidiary.
He was transferred to Singapore in 2003 as Regional Head for Asia Pacific, managing a branch network in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan (3 branches) and China (3 branches).
He was active in corporate banking and financial markets for medium and large-sized companies and institutions.
He had a direct responsibility for corporate business development, risk management and overall network.
He contributed to strategy formulation and execution within the merchant banking division’s scope of activities in Asia Pacific.
He moved to London in 2010 as General Manager.
Mr. Speelmans earned a Bachelor's degree in Latin & Mathematics from St-Jan Berchmans College, Mol, Belgium in 1980.
He obtained Master's degrees in Political and Social Sciences in 1984 & Economic Sciences in 1986, both from Catholic Universtity of Louvain, Belgium.
Aside from English, he speaks Dutch, French and German.
