Alfred Sommer

Alfred Sommer is currently the Chairman at the Albert & Mary Lasker Foundation.
He is also the Director at the Lasker Foundation since 2015.
Additionally, he holds the position of Professor at the University of South Carolina and is a Member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine (United States).
Dr. Sommer is also a Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
In his former positions, Dr. Sommer served as the Chairman of the Micronutrient Forum.
He was also a Director at Becton, Dickinson & Co. from 1998 to 2012.
From 2003 to 2016, he held the role of Independent Director at T.
Rowe Price Group, Inc. He has also served as a Director at the Academy for Educational Development and as the President of the Association of Schools of Public Health.
Dr. Sommer's education includes a graduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University, an undergraduate degree from Union College (New York) conferred in 1963, and a doctorate from Harvard Medical School.
