Fred Sanfilippo

Dr. Sanfilippo is currently the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the College of Medicine and Public Health at the Ohio State University.
He is directly responsible for all patient care, research, and teaching in the OSU Medical Center, which comprises the College of Medicine and Public Health; five hospitals, including University Hospital, University East Hospital, OSU/Harding Behavioral Healthcare and Medicine, the James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, and the Ross Heart Hospital, (under construction); a network of outpatient care facilities throughout central Ohio; the Comprehensive Cancer Center and Neurobiotechnology Center; and the new Dorothy M.
Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute.
Dr. Sanfilippo came to OSU on September 1, 2000 from Johns Hopkins University, where he had been the Baxley Professor and Chair of Pathology and Pathologist-in-Chief at The Johns Hopkins Hospital since January 1993.
Previously he served on the Duke University faculty as Professor of Pathology, Surgery, and Immunology.
An internationally recognized physician-scientist with over 250 publications and $20M in research grant support, he led the formation of the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Center and was its Director of Research.
He is active internationally in transplantation and pathology having received numerous honors and awards, has been elected as President, President-elect of 7 academic societies, and has served on the editorial board of 13 professional journals.
