Jerry Best

Prior to joining JER Partners in February 2002, Mr. Best worked for the law firm of Hunton & Williams, where he represented various commercial real estate players, such as developers, owners, landlords, tenants, construction lenders, permanent lenders, equity investors, REITS, Real Estate Mortgage Investment Conduits, governmental agencies and others.
From 1999 until joining JER, he worked for The Charles E.
Smith Companies, representing both the publicly-traded Smith apartment REIT, which merged with Archstone to form one of the largest apartment REITs in the nation, and the private office building REIT, which merged with the Vornado to form one of the nation’s largest office building REITs.
Mr. Best’s experience spans all the product types, such as apartments, office buildings, retail centers from major shopping malls to strip centers, hotels, assisted living facilities, golf courses, industrial projects, historic structures, mixed use projects and the like.
He has been involved in various transaction types, including land assemblages, acquisitions, dispositions, financings, syndications, leasing, land use cases, loan workouts and foreclosures, and tax motivated transactions such as 1031 exchanges, synthetic leases and REIT unit exchanges, and various other sophisticated types of commercial real estate transactions.
Mr. Best graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1983.
