Peter P. Policastro

Dr. Policastro joined BCMT as Entrepreneur in Residence in 2005 and is based in Houston.
With experience in biotech, specialty pharma and chemicals, advanced materials and medical products, he evaluates investment opportunities and works with several of BCMT's existing portfolio companies to refine and implement their business plans.
Peter began his career at General Electric (Corporate Research and Development), where he managed an interdisciplinary research team that developed advanced materials for applications in GE's plastics, medical and microelectronics businesses.
As President of Octanova Laboratories, he headed global development for the Swedish multi-national company Octanova A.B.
(now part of Akzo Nobel) and was founding CEO of the laser surgical device company, MedGenesis.
For five years he served as Senior Vice President of R&D and Chief Technology Officer of Plastics Manufacturing Company (now Borden Chemical), the major operating subsidiary of Sun Coast Industries (NYSE), which he and his team successfully turned around and sold to Borden Chemical.
He served as President and CEO of Enchira Biotechnology Corporation (NASDAQ) for five years.
Most recently, he was President and CEO of Sapphire Therapeutics Corp (now Sapphire Therapeutics), having raised $40 million in venture capital backed financing for the company while leading the successful development of its lead compound for treatment of cancer cachexia, currently in Phase II clinical trials.
Dr. Policastro received his A.B., magna cum laude, from Duke University and his Ph.D.
in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He is an inventor of 19 issued U.S.
patents.
