MCWHIRTER is chairman emeritus of Fifth Third Bank, Indiana.
He is a fourth-generation banker who served as chief executive officer for Peoples Bank & Trust Company from 1985 until 1999, when it merged with Fifth Third.
McWhirter is currently Chairman of Easter Seals Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, and the United Way Capital Funds Project Committee.
He is a member of the Advisory Boards of the University of Indianapolis Financial Services Institute and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
He is a founding board member of the Indianapolis Entrepreneurship Academy and the Masonic Learning Centers for Children, Inc. McWhirter was chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association.
He was a board member and treasurer of the United Way, Community Bankers Association, St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, Salvation Army, and Young Presidents Organization.
He is a past board member of Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana and The University Club of Indianapolis.
He is past president of the Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis and its foundation.
He is a member of the executive committee and board of directors at Fifth Third, and serves on the boards of The Schneider Corporation and Interactive Intelligence.
McWhirter received his degree in economics from DePauw University.
