BlackRock Japan Co., Ltd. is the Japan-based investment advisory subsidiary of BlackRock Japan Holdings GK, headquartered in Tokyo. The firm was founded in 1988 and is ultimately held by BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) in the US. BlackRock Japan merged with Barclays Global Investors Japan Co., Ltd. (BGI) in 2009. The resulting firm combines BlackRock's focus on actively managed funds with the former BGI's strength in index and exchange-traded funds. BlackRock Japan provides investment advisory services, manages Japanese investments, and contributes local specialist insight to Blackrock's range of funds, particularly the iShares tracker ETFs. Their clients are pension funds, governments, insurance companies, public institutions, funds, foundations, charitable organizations, operating companies, banks, government funds, asset management companies, and individual investors around the world.

Barclays Global Investors Ltd. (BGI), based in London, became a part of BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) in the US, which merged in 2009 with Barclays Global Investors (BGI). The combined firm operates under the BlackRock name and has retained the iShares brand. Originally founded in 1971, BGI managed assets for individual investors, government and corporate retirement plans, financial institutions, charities, endowments and unions. BGI, headquartered in New York City, was a leader in investment management, risk management and advisory services for institutional and retail clients worldwide. They offered a wide range of products including separate accounts, mutual funds and ETFs.

Barclays Bank Plc (Private Banking) (BPB-UK) is the private banking division of Barclays Bank Plc, itself a subsidiary of Barclays Plc (LSE: BARC, ADR: BCS) in Great Britain. Founded in 1971, Barclays-PB is headquartered in London and offers wealth management products and services to high-net worth individuals, families and charities.

Nikko Asset Management Co., Ltd. (Nikko AM) is the investment management subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings, Inc. (TYO: 8309, ADR: SUTNY) in Japan. The firm is headquartered in Tokyo and has additional offices in London, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore. Founded in 1959, Nikko AM provides investment advisory and asset management services to institutional investors, such as corporations, pension funds, trust banks, charitable organizations, government agencies and funds, supranational organizations; as well as pooled investment vehicles, including Japanese investment trusts, and Nikko AM Group affiliates. The firm is a socially responsible investor and signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI).
