Jörg Gehler studied physics at the Charles University of Prague and gained his doctorate at the Fraunhofer Institut for Applied Optics and Precision Mechanics in Jena.
After a period spent in research at the Kanagawa Academy for Science and Technology in Japan he worked for 6 years at Alcatel in Stuttgart and Dallas in the development of optical components and transmission systems where his activities also covered the evaluation of new optical technologies for the Alcatel VC Department.
