The Shawnee County Medical Society HealthAccess is a community partnership dedicated to improving healthcare access for low-income, uninsured residents of Shawnee County. The non-profit company is based in Topeka, KS. The program coordinates donated physician care, hospital services, and medication assistance to provide comprehensive, preventive healthcare and help patients establish a medical home for better continuity of care. Eligibility requires residency in Shawnee County, family income at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines, lack of insurance or government medical benefits, and participation of a primary care provider in the program. Patients must re-enroll every six months with updated income verification. HealthAccess complements existing low-income clinics and relies entirely on grants, fundraising, and donations, including annual events. The program encourages physician and specialist volunteer participation and offers opportunities for medical professionals to serve on its board.
