Dr. Daniel Vapnek is an Advisor at Iguana Healthcare Management LLC.
He was Senior Vice president for Research at Amgen from 1981-1997.
During his tenure, scientists under his direction developed Epogen and Neupogen and discovered the RANK ligand which laid the groundwork for the development of denosumab for the treatment of osteoporosis.
For the past decade, Dr. Vapnek has been an advisor to venture capital funds and involved in several startups including BioArray solutions, which was recently sold to Immucor.
He is currently on The Board of Directors of Medicinova and an Adjunct Professor of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of California Santa Barbara.
Prior to joining Amgen, he was Professor of Molecular and Population Biology at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Vapnek received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami (Florida) and a doctorate degree from the University of Miami (Florida).
